Notley v Tabor
Monday, 16 May 2016Venue:
Coggeshall Town FC
In a repeat of last year’s final, Notley went into the game as favourites having yet to concede a goal in District Football this season.
Notley started well and kept the ball in dangerous positions up the field. In a game that had very few chances, Notley knew they had to be clinical. At 15 minutes, a long clearance from S Ikhlaq was flicked on by J Rolls to A Mason. Mason controlled the ball well and was left one on one with a Tabor defender. Mason turned his opponent inside out and set up a shot from the edge of the box. Still with a lot to do, Mason confidently put Notley 1-0 up with a rasping left foot drive. Tabor came back into the game and piled on the pressure. The Notley defence held strong, being well marshalled from O Dawson, M Forster and R Baker, limiting Tabor to shots from distance. In the second half, Notley continued to threaten with only half chances being created. At the other end, the Notley midfield were holding strong and not allowing the Tabor team to put any pressure onto our defence. With 5 minutes to go, a through ball again from J Rolls set A Mason on the charge. Mason closed down a defender and won the ball. He then managed to work the ball through onto his left foot with only the goalkeeper to beat, there was only going to be one outcome, 2-0 to Notley. Mason calmly fired the ball into the near side of the goal leaving Notley to retain the trophy.
A huge congratulations to the whole squad in retaining the trophy without conceding a single goal.
